Return to South America
Tour diary
Our visits to South America have been a great experience for us: always an adventure, and a chance to make many excellent new friends. Our second visit was certainly an adventure. It began at Gatwick, with a mix up in ticket bookings. This led to a frantic rush to buy new tickets so that we could be there in time for our first gig in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Finally, after some panicking, we found ourselves on the plane and heading for Buenos Aires. About an hour from landing, we got caught in an electrical storm, and had to endure some severe turbulence. This was nothing to the massive drops the plane went through when we hit some bad air pockets. Stuff was flying around the cabin, and people were screaming. We honestly thought we were going to crash! However, we landed safely, with shaken and relieved passengers giving an enthusiastic round of applause. From then on it was time to think about the music! We spent an evening rehearsing some tracks with the guys from the ‘Immortal Band’, a group specially put together for us. That went pretty well, so we were hoping for good things at the gig the next day. We were not disappointed: it was a good turn out, and a positive reaction. The Immortal band did the music justice and the evening was a success! Special thanks to singer Sebastian for giving me some great new sunglasses: I had managed to lose his. Nerves were a little raw as we stepped onto the plane to Bolivia. We were praying for a smooth flight! Fortunately we got one, and landed safely at Santa Cruz airport. We were met there by music fan Ricardo, who had been instrumental in organising Caamora’s visit to Bolivia. The weather was nice and mild, and the next few days were simply luxurious! From the top hotel to the chauffeur driven Rolls Royce, from the best restaurants to the video shoot, our stay was a terrific first visit to the marvellous country. As with every country we have visited in South America, the hospitality has been amazing, and this was no exception. After performing a brilliant gig in the packed ‘Clapton Bar’, it was time to move on to Chile. We rehearsed with the ‘ExStigma’ band who again had got together to help Caamora perform some songs at the Bar 7 gig. The familiar faces of Claudio Momberg (Keyboards) and ‘Mr. Melon’ (Bass) made us confident that the songs would go well on the night. Indeed they did. While Agnieszka caught up on some much needed beauty sleep (we were at Santa Cruz airport at 3 AM!), I worked through some Pendragon tracks with the band. After another great gig in Santiago, we were headed towards Valparaiso. Again a most enthusiastic reception was waiting. There was even a chance for a boat ride around the port of Valparaiso. Two days later we were back in Buenos Aires, and preparing for our final gig in South America: Mr Jones Bar. This was cosy, and great fun. It made a terrific finale to our time out there. Special thanks to JL, Fernando and Jorge for all their help and enthusiasm. From then, it was time to head for Canada... But that’s another story! |
